I looked in to this problem quite deeply last time it came up - unfortunately I can't replicate it because it seems to be specific to the USB internals of certain computers. I haven't listened to your silence recording, but I'm sure Ruth's analysis is correct. In the meantime, try the first suggestion: it won't cost much and may solve the problem anyway.īy the way, I like your voice and reading style and hope to hear more of your voice in the future. If you can send me a PM< with the details of your laptop ie, brand, model number and date of purchase, I could check this out for you. It is possible to replace the hard-drive on a laptopwith a silent solid state drive, but you would have to work out whether this would be an economical proposition. If the noise is coming from your laptop, it will very possibly be from the hard drive. In fact, some USB microphones come with cables as long as 16 feet. There should be no problem using a longer cable with your microphone.
That could establish whether the hub is part of the problem.
First suggestion: replace the powered hub with a USB extension cable and plug it directly into your computer.
